The WOODWAY Carver is used by professional athletes

“The Carver is an outstanding piece of fitness equipment”
The Carver is an outstanding piece of fitness equipment. I use the machine regularly to obtain a wide variety of fitness benefits for my personal training clients and other health club members.
I have found it particularly effective for improving muscular endurance, cardiovascular fitness, mobility, coordination, skill acquisition and motor control.
The interactive features also make it extremely enjoyable to use. The combination of these factors make the Carver an incredibly useful machine for both skiers and non-skiers alike.

“It challenges me to do something different”
“Whenever I want to mix up my usual weights training with something fun, I jump on the Carver. It challenges me to do something different and is a really easy way to blast the lower body. My legs feel like jelly afterwards!”

I decided to take up training on the Carver machine to improve my skiing technique.
It’s not only great for technique training but also improves your posture, strength and cardio! The difficulty is also increased by training in an altitude chamber at nearly 3,000m!
This has also improved my skills in other sports…on a weekly basis I figure skate and I’ve noticed a huge improvement in my posture and strength on the ice.
I will be continuing my training on the Carver machine and highly recommend it to anyone at any ability, even if you’re not going skiing. It’s overall a great way to keep fit!

“…Learn and improve their ski and snowboard skills, but it could also be used as a great cardiovascular and leg strength workout for non skiers and boarders”
At Third Space we are always looking to put the latest cutting edge products onto our gym floors.
We chose the Carver because not only was style it unique in that members could use it to learn and improve their ski and snowboard skills, but it could also be used as a great cardiovascular and leg strength workout for non skiers and boarders.
As such, we put two into our new City club and the member feedback has been extremely positive. We are now looking at which clubs we put the Carver into next.

“I can wholeheartedly recommend this new top-of-the-range ski service!”
The Carver at The Third Space Medical is an innovative tool for assessing and training people in skiing techniques
As a knee surgeon, I see numerous patients with knee injuries, many of whom are post-op, having previously had knee surgery, and many people are really keen to return to skiing. It’s one thing to assess someone’s strength and function in a gym, but until now it’s been impossible to assess their ability to ski safely off the slope.
The Carver now provides an uncannily realistic opportunity for people to practice repeated dynamic ski turns, to assess whether they are ready to return to the slopes without the ‘just give it your best shot’ approach we so often see.
Even for people with no knee injuries who just want to get into shape and who want to reduce the risk of potential injury, The Carver now offers a unique platform for getting into shape doing exactly the correct manoeuvres and training in preparation for skiing — and all under the direct supervision of the expert specialist physiotherapists from The Third Space Medical.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this new top-of-the-range ski service!

“I am truly impressed with the Carver…”
“I am truly impressed with the Carver. It is the closest thing to the real thing in a setting which is accessible and reproducible.
I feel the Carver is an essential component for Pre-habiliation or Pre-Ski to enable the individual to maximise their performance and safety prior to getting on the slopes.
It is not surprising then that it is a logical method to rehabilitate the injured wishing to get back to their desired winter sport. It encompasses static positions which reenact the real thing whilst dynamic enough under the skis or board in keeping with the undulating terrain. This can vary in speed and decline.
It’s a big thumbs up for me!”

I thought the Carver was an excellent rehabilitation tool.

“The WOODWAY Carver is a great piece of kit”
“The WOODWAY Carver is a great piece of kit and having used it with patients for lower limb rehab it can provide a challenging surface for proprioceptive training.
The settings on the treadmill are varied and easy to manipulate (speed, gradient etc.) and the interactive options mean there is an element of fun for you to ‘’race’’ on skis or snowboard if you want to.
To be able to provide something for patients that remains low impact but provides a higher level of rehab is a really useful piece of kit that I will be using more and more with my caseload.
It obviously appeals to anyone wanting to rehab or indeed prehab around the ski/snow season but I think its potential stretches further than that for ACLR, ankle instability training or post-op lower limb rehabilitation for physiotherapy patients.”

“Besides improving my ski technique, it delivers a huge cardio workout”
I grew up in the Bay Area and learned to ski as soon as I could walk at Squaw Valley, CA. I can’t imagine my workouts now, without the Carver in my life.
Besides improving my ski technique, it delivers a huge cardio workout. I also can’t see any self-respecting Californian gym near ski country without one (especially useful in the off season).
I posted an image of the Carver to my Facebook profile and I even had interest from one of my instructor friends wanting to know when they were getting one. Furthermore, if I could have one at home – I would, I love it that much.

“The workouts are tough but super fun”
The Carver is definitely not like any other ordinary gym equipment, the workouts are tough but super fun at the same time. Every time I go on I see an improvement on my skiing technique. Race mode is probably my favourite, I get very competitive to try and be number 1 on that leaderboard!

“The confusion and shock on their face when I show them the Carvers we have is incredible”
It seems a very very high percentage of people I meet day in and day out will Ski or Snowboard. The confusion and shock on their face when I show them the Carvers we have is incredible.
Most of them just laugh as if they don’t believe it’s real. Those that frequent the slopes will often ask me how it feels in comparison and what they can do on it etc. I have a baseline knowledge due to our time together which helps me explain the carving movement, the muscles which work and the benefits of altitude for them who are prepping to hit the mountains.”

“I had a wonderful experience with the Carver and have been a regular user of it since then”
The Carver was introduced to me in the Third Space Gym, Central London around six months ago. I had a wonderful experience with the Carver and have been a regular user of it since then.
I had no previous experience of Skiing or Snowboarding, but still it was great fun learning it, and it didn’t take much time to do it at decent level.
The built-in race leaderboard encouraged me to keep track of my learning process by comparing it with the data and progression by other gym members.
I found it more fun then my usual leg workouts and in the process I was learning the basic fundamentals of Skiing and Snowboarding which I am looking forward to trying on the real mountains.
In-spite of no previous experience of Skiing or Snowboarding, I have found Carver to be very safe and comfortable to use since the beginning.

“I just love the carver and being able to work on my technique in a controlled low impact environment but also for the amazing cardio work out.”
I grew up in the mountains where snow sports became a major part of my life. I was coached and trained to national race level from a very young age, as well as working as a ski coach and patroller for many years.
The 1st time on the carver instantly highlighted an issue that I have always had with my right hip rotating out and within a few minutes this issue was rectified which somehow I have never managed to correct on snow.
The Carver is great as I am able to work on my technique in a controlled low impact environment but also for the amazing cardio work out. The HIT programme on the software has to be my favourite pushing myself to new levels each time I have a session.
To my amazement on my last ski holiday I could feel that my technique had massively improved and I managed to master short turns like never before and other professionals who I was there with noticed too.
Training on the Carver has allowed me to ski for longer periods due to increased fitness and muscle strength.
I really wish this fantastic piece of equipment was available when I was being coached all those years ago as it would have prevented technical bad habits and offered dry land training (and saved my parents a fortune).
I can really see the Carver having a massive future in the development for ski and snowboard coaching without a doubt.

“I know my first time on it felt like a 1 hour Pilates class but it had only been 10 minutes!”
“The Carver is such a great bit of kit to have in our club, it’s a great conversation starter when talking our customers through the unique factors within our club. I think our members enjoy the Carver so much because it is a different way to exercise and is something you can improve at really quickly but at the same time, get such a great workout! I know my first time on it felt like a 1 hour Pilates class but it had only been 10 minutes!”
